Optimist Club Novice Shamrocks launch into first place!
The Parry Sound Optimist Club Novices had a busy weekend starting Thursday with a 7-1 win over Muskoka Rock at the Humphrey Arena.

With a big win under their belts he team faced the Haliburton Storm on Saturday for a double header. The Shamrocks had trouble with Haliburton early in the season and were eager to show their improvement. In game one, the Shamrocks came out on fire and controlled much of the play. Goaltending was great at both ends but the Storm escaped with the win 2-0. Despite the loss, the Shamrocks carried the confidence from their good play forward into the second game.  Ben Kearns opened up the scoring early in the first motivating the rest of the bench. Lewis Hergaarden hammered one past the goal in the second period and in the third it was more of the same from the Shamrocks with another goal from Hergaarden and one from Michael Murphy. It was a well deserved shutout for Goalkeeper Orion Cooper and the Shamrocks took game two with a convincing 4-0 win.

On Sunday, the Shamrocks traveled to Elmvale to take on the Coyotes with their eyes on first place in the league. A win in this game would launch the novices into first place. With the coaches putting that in the ear of the team they came out fired up once again. Lewis Hergaarden scored a couple quick goals in the first period to give them the lead. In the second, Lucas Henry was setup at the side of the net and potted a goal with a nice pass from his linemate. Despite a goal from the Coyotes to steal Orion Coopers shutout bid, Michael Murphy would score with a nice rush at the start of the third and with a final goal off the faceoff from Riley Blower the Shamrocks secured the game 5-1 and first place in the league!

Point this weekend went to: (Lewis Hergaarden 7G 3A; Ben Kearns 4G 2A; Michael Murphy 3G 5A; Lucas Henry 1G 2A; Riley Blower 1G 1A; Nathan Heimes 4A; Luke Nelson 2A; Finn Gilbert 1A, Mitchell Parrick 1A)

The Optimist Club Novice Shamrocks will take on the South Muskoka Bears in Bracebridge this Saturday at 1pm.
