Optimist Club Novices bring home two huge wins on the road!
It was a weekend of "firsts" for the Optimist Club Novices this past weekend...

On Saturday, the Novices met up with Muskoka Rock at the Humphrey Arena. Nathan Heimes opened up the scoring for the Shamrocks early in the first period. Lewis Hergaarden followed up quickly with another, assisted by Riley Blower, and then scored his second of the game with a sweet backhand shot. Michael Murphy also managed to find the mesh nearing the end of the first after a great setup from Gavin Priaulx. Murphy would go on to score a hat trick with one goal per period. Mitchell Parrirk made a diving shot and took the Shamrocks into the 2nd up 5-0. Not only was this the first regular season game against the rock, this game also marked notable firsts for three Shamrock players with #16 Lucas Henry, #4 Rowan Buckland, and #9 Trent Hodgson all scoring their first regular season goals of their novice careers! While Muskoka Rock was able to sneak one goal past the Shamrocks goalie in the third period to spoil Orion Cooper's shutout bid, it would not be enough. The final score was 10-1 for the Shamrocks. Points in this game go to: Michael Murphy (3G, 1A), Lewis Hergaarden (2G, 1A), Trent Hodgson (1G, 1A), Lucas Henry (1G), Rowan Buckland (1G, 1A), Nathan Heimes (1G), Mitchell Parrick (1G), Gavin Priaulx (2A), Riley Blower (1A), Finn Gilbert (1A), TJ Hergaarden (1A).

On Sunday, the Optimist Club Novices traveled to Huntsville to take on the Otters. Huntsville has always been a tough challenger for these boys. Much improved and riding a high of 7 wins in their last 8 outings (including tournament play) the Shamrocks were up for this challenge. They came out with less energy than expected, and allowed a single Huntsville goal in the first period but after a pep talk from the coaching staff they turned up the pace in the second period and Nathan Heimes tied it up. In the third period, Lewis Hergaarden managed to get away from the Otters on a breakaway and scored. The Otters then took a tripping penalty allowing the Shamrocks a 1 man advantage and Michael Murphy scored on the powerplay.  Trent Hodgson and Lewis Hergaarden both registered goals in the third period, as well as one goal by the Otters but it would be the Shamrocks as the victors in the end with a score of 5-2. This was a first, but certainly not a last for this tough group of kids who fought hard against a tough opponent and should be extremely proud.  Points in this game go to: Lewis Hergaarden (2G), Michael Murphy (1G, 1A), Nathan Heimes (1G), Trent Hodgson (1G), Gavin Priaulx (1A).

Coming up this weekend the Optimist Club Novice Shamrocks will take on the Muskoka Rock at the Humphrey Community Centre on Saturday, November 19th at 2:30pm and then host them the on Sunday at home at the Bobby Orr Community Centre at 1pm.
