Weekend update from your Optimist Club Novices
After beating them in their home rink on October 22nd, the Optimist Club Novice Shamrocks hosted the Penetang Flames for a rematch at the Bobby Orr Community Centre this past Sunday.

The Shamrocks opened up the scoring with Michael Murphy rushing the Flames defense and making a great shot to score the unassisted goal. For the rest of the period and into the second, both teams kept the energy high with both teams getting some great offensive chances. With Orion Cooper defending the net, and strong defensive play in front of him by his teammates, the score would remain 1-0 for the Shamrocks heading in to the third period.

Penalties would haunt the last period of the game with a combined twelve minutes being served in the box by the two teams, the first of which giving the Flames a one-man advantage which they would capitalize on to even the score at 1-1. The Shamrocks would quickly take two more penalties giving the Flames a 5-3 advantage. The boys kept their wits and played strong short handed and Lewis Hergaarden was able to hit the mesh to regain control of the scoreboard. With only 43 seconds left on the clock, this time with help from teammates Nathan Heimes and Ben Kearns, Hergaarden scored his second of the game to send the Flames packing with a 3-1 loss.

The Novices have this weekend off, but will be back in action at 1pm on Saturday, November 12th versus Muskoka Rock at the Humphrey Community Centre.
