All qualifications listed are the MINIMUM REQUIREMENT for 2025/2026

All Bench Staff needs to complete the following:

Hockey Canada Profile

  1. Log into your Hockey Canada Account
  2. If you are a brand new member, please create a new account.
  3. At the start of every new season, you will need to Register yourself as Bench Staff for the season.
  4. Click on Members and update any missing information.
  5. Click Waivers and sign all necessary waivers.
  6. If you are a returning member and cannot see your Waivers, you may need to complete the following to fix your account.
    • From the dashboard, after you first sign in, select “Link a HCR Member”, then type your name and birth date. It should locate your HCR (Hockey Canada) number and provide an option to link your old and new account.

  • All Team Officials (Coach, Trainer & Manager) require Respect in Sport (RiS) - Activity Leader or Speak Out! 
    (ONLINE - Only required to complete this once, this is for new team officials only)
  •  All Team Officials (Coach, Trainer & Manager) require Gender Identity & Expression Course
    (ONLINE - sign in to eHockey.hockeycanada.ca, click on Sign up for a Clinic then Search for clinics, select the Type to be "Gender Identity and Expression Course" - Only required to complete this once, this is for new team officials only)
  • All Team Officials (Coach, Trainer & Manager) Rowan’s Law Resource Review & Acknowledgement, click here
    (Form signed and given to local league director / rep director.
  • All teams officials and all volunteers, including executive members will need a Criminal Self Disclosure & a valid Vulnerable Sector Check, details click here (ONLINE - This is valid for a three year period). Please note, Vulnerable Sector Checks (VSC) must now be approved by the OHF. Please see here for details of how to get your VSC Approved by the OHF. 
  • Trainer Staff - All teams require at least one certified Trainer with their L1 certification.  

    Trainer Level 1 or Level 1 Refresher:  https://htohockey.ca.
  • Coaching Staff courses required depend on age and playing level of the team.

Hockey Canada’s National Coach Certification Program (NCCP) is a competency-based program. The program enables coaches to build their coaching tools and knowledge of the game, so they can work effectively with their players.

The Locker at Coach.ca

The Locker is the Coaching Association of Canada’s online database. Access to The Locker will provide all coaches with the opportunity to track their progress and guide their development.

  • Coaches can create a log-in and access their Profile and Transcript online -where they can can view/update personal information, coaching records and access printable transcripts.

  • Certification Maintenance & Professional Development points will be tracked on the Coach’s Transcript in ‘The Locker’ and will update the Hockey Canada Registry (HCR) Profile when ‘Certified’ status is renewed
