Team & Tournament Rules, Regulations and Requirements


This is an OMHA Sanctioned Tournament therefore OMHA and Hockey Canada Rules and Regulations apply to and will govern all games.

Teams are required to provide a Travel Permit ( Permission from your home association to attend the Tournament ). Full Team Roster as Approved by the OMHA( Ontario Minor Hockey Association ), HC( Hockey Canada ), NOHA( Northern Ontario Hockey Association ), Southern Ontario - Hockey Alliance or Hockey USA Rosters / Cards, etc.  Rosters must include all Regular and Affiliated Players as approved by their organization prime association and/or regulatory body.

All Players and Coaching Staff official Registration Documents must be available for review upon request at any time during the course of the Tournament. If teams do not have the proper & approved player and team official documentation, the team may not continue in the tournament and their games will be recorded as forfeited games.

Teams must have a Certified Trainer on the bench at all games, if a Trainer is  unavailable the Team can ask the opposing Team if they can share their Trainer, the Trainer would then be required to Sign as Trainer for both Teams on both sides of the Game Sheet, for both teams.

All players must wait until the Zamboni/Ice Resurfacer is off the ice and the gate is closed before entering the ice surface. Player(s) may be subject to a suspension from the tournament for entering the ice surface early.

Only one photographer is allowed on ice after Final Games only and all other pictures must be taken off the ice. All other games any Photographers or those looking to take pictures are prohibited to be on the Ice.

No protest will be heard regarding a Referee's decision. All Referee Decisions are Final. The Tournament Director and/or Delegate and/or depending on the nature of protest, the Tournament Committee will review any and all other protests. A $250 Deposit will be required for any Protests brought forward and the Deposit Fee must accompany any and all protests. The Deposit will be returned if your protest is successful. A protest may only be heard if it is brought to the attention of the Tournament Director and or their Delegate within thirty ( 30 ) minutes of completion of the game in question, accompanied by the Deposit. A formal written submission can follow the initial notification. A Review and Ruling will be completed prior to the team's next scheduled game.

The Tournament Director and/or Delegate and/or the Tournament Committee reserve the right to make any and all decisions regarding interpretation of the rules, objections and protests. All decisions made by the Tournament Director and/or Delegate and/or Tournament Committee are final.        

An acceptance of a Team's Entry releases the Tournament Director, Tournament Committee and Home Club Officials and the home organization, the Arena Owners and Management as well as everyone connected with the tournament from all liability for injury or accident which may be incurred by a player, team official or spectator while attending or participating in the tournament.

All Teams and Team Officials are responsible to be aware and comply with Rules as included and described.

Scheduled Game Start Times            
All Scheduled Game times are approximate. Teams must be ready to play 15 minutes prior to the scheduled game time. There is a Mercy Rule and there may be other circumstances that could require earlier start times for Scheduled Games, so you must be ready to play 15 minutes prior to the scheduled game time or run the risk of forfeiting the game. Teams that are not ready to start their games on time or within the 15-Minute window may forfeit such games at the discretion of the Tournament Director and/or Designate.
                        
Due to the nature of our scheduling, time restrictions will be enforced. Any Teams failing to Ice a Team  with a Minimum of 6 Skaters Plus 1 Goaltender, Team Officials must include of One Carded Coach, shall forfeit that game ( 1-0 ). If a player is late to a game, they must be on the Game Sheet and on the ice before the end of the 2nd Period.

Division Standings:
Tournament Standings will be determined in the following order, Game Points ( 2 Points for a Win, 1 Point for a  Tie, 0 Points for a Loss ), Ties will be determined by the Tie Breaker Rules as described in the Section under Tie Breaker Rules.

Mercy Rule
If the goal differential is Five Goals in the Third Period, the clock shall move to running time. If in the following play the difference is reduced to less than Five Goals respectively, the clock will then revert back to Stop Time. While running time, Minor Penalties will be 3:00 minutes and Major Penalties at 7 & 1/2 Minutes. The Mercy Rule is only in effect and can only be applied for any and all games in the Round Robin Rounds only.

                    
Tie Breaking Rules
Tie-Breaking and the determination of the round robin standings will be based, in order, on:
1 ) The Head to Head result involving the Teams who are Tied , this only applies if all teams that are in the tie have played against each other.

2 ) If still Tied, the best ratio of "Goals For/(Goals For + Goals Against)" in all Round Robin games. The team with the best ratio would then advance.

3 ) If still Tied, the Team who scored the Most Goals.

4 ) If still Tied, the Team with the Lowest Number of Penalty Minutes( Official Game Sheets will be used as the basis for calculating the Penalty Minutes ).

5) If still Tied, a Toss of a Coin by the Tournament Director/Coordinator or Designate ( Teams do not have to be present, but they will be notified of the results. )

            Overtime Rules
Over Time is only applicable to Semi-Final and Final games.

Overtime will consist of one 5 Minute Overtime period of Stop Time. Teams may freely substitute players during Overtime Play.

Overtime will start with 4 on 4 unless Penalties are being served, then Penalties will carry over into Overtime.

If both teams are serving a penalty then the Overtime Period will start with 3 on 3 play or as according to the number of penalties being served and compliant with OMHA Rules.        

If during Overtime play a team receives a minor penalty the team will play Short Handed, if a second penalty is given to the same team during the penalty being served the opposing team will add a player. If still Tied after 5 minutes of 4 on 4( less players serving Penalties ) then a Shootout will decide a winner.
                

    

Shoot-Out Rules1 ) Shootout - 3 Shooters from each Team and all three players/shooters will Shoot.

2 ) The Coach will give the Referees the first 3 Shooters at the beginning of the Shootout.

3 ) Any player(s) serving a Penalty cannot be 1 of the 3 first Shooters    

4 ) If still Tied after the first 3 Shooters have shot, the Shootout will continue with 1 Shooter at a time, from each team.

5 ) The first team who Scores the most amount of Goals with an equal amount of shooters will be declared the Winner.

6 ) No player will be allowed to Shoot twice until all players, excluding goalies, have participated in the
Shootout.


Time-Out Rules
There will only be one 30 second time-out allowed per team per game and is only available in the Semi-Final and Final Games. No time outs are allowed during the Round Robin Rounds/Games.

        
Dressing Rooms                                        
Teams will be  responsible for any damage caused to dressing rooms and any other areas of the facilities. The individual team’s will be responsible for loss or theft from the dressing room.
