Ritchie Insurance Bantams win Bobby Orr Hall of Fame Tournament
The Ritchie Insurance Bantams came into their home tournament on November 16th looking to give the home town crowd something to cheer about.
They opened the tournament on Friday night with a 3-1 win over the Goderich Sailors. On Saturday, the team didn't allow a goal all day shutting out Flesherton 5-0 in the morning then blanking Cochrane 2-0 in the afternoon to finish the round robin a perfect 3-0 and booking a spot in the semi final on Sunday.
Due to an odd number of teams in the tournament, the home team had to play the Oro Thunder on Sunday morning to help decide the final division standings. The team didn't take the game lightly and won 4-1. The semi final matchup Sunday afternoon saw the Shamrocks face off against Lincoln, who they tied 1-1 in St Catherines the month before in the Blades home tournament. It was another nail biting game with chances being traded back and forth and after the third period buzzer the two teams found themselves tied again at 1. This was the third straight semi final tournament game to go to overtime for the Shamrocks and they didn't want to feel heart break again. A tripping penalty against Lincoln put the home town team on the power play where they capitalized and won the game 2-1.In the final, the Shamrocks met Oro again for the second time that day and working on the momentum of that overtime win, skated to a 4-0 victory and tournament champions!!
