Our Parry Sound Tyke Shamrock’s accepted their third loss of the season
on Sunday, January 22nd from their Gravenhurst counterparts. Despite coming short on the scoreboard,
coaches, family and fans were treated to more than a hockey game with huge
smiles by all, dancing by Cameron Crawford (to tunes played in between play)
and even a humorously uplifting high-five from Ryder Pyykko to his goalie Jake
Pennington which delayed a faceoff late in the game; the sentiments reminded
all that fun can be had even in a loss and that this is a team interested in
building positive spirit.
Despite being outmatched in offensive prowess, the Tyke Shamrock’s showed significant development over their previous two games in their defensive abilities. Cody Rochon, know to be a scorer on the team, was a leader with exemplary back-checking abilities. As well, Mic Constable and Orion Williams exemplified absolute grit and determination to relentlessly fight for possession of the puck and clear danger whenever it arose. In addition, Leah Baker and Eli Cramp had their best games so far by showing exceptional positional play to eliminate options for the relentless attack of the Gravenhurst team.
Together, these sound defensive plays kept the Shamrocks in the game by frustrating the opposition and creating goal-scoring opportunities. Cole Thomas had a particularly strong game and when the opportunity presented itself, he didn’t disappoint. A burst of his fiery speed in the second period led to the lone Parry Sound goal. Strong defenders Mya Rochon and Skylar Penfold also had exciting chances.
The Parry Sound Shamrock Tykes hosts the “Tyke Fun Day” (full day event) this Saturday, January 28th at the Bobby Orr Community Centre.
