What a great showing for the Parry Sound Novices at the Soo PeeWee Extravaganza this past weekend!

With their first game at 8:00am on the 21st, the Novices gave it all they had, showing Shamrock pride and winning 3-2 against McDougall Energy. Scoring for Parry Sound were Wyatt Norman scoring the first goal of the tournament, assisted by Sullivan Burrows and Nolan Henry scoring twice, assisted by Adam Gognavec and Kyle Nicksy respectively. The team held off their opposition very well, with the offensive award of the game going to Wyatt Norman and the defensive award going to Dylan Thompson.

Pumped by the win, the team then played Ontario Concrete at 6:00pm on the 21st. Cullen Henry scored the team's first goal, assisted by Laurier Lefebvre and Randy Evanush, holding Ontario Concrete at bay until the third period. Number 15, Wyatt Norman, scored a beautiful goal unassisted, with 9:53 left in the period, with Ontario Concrete then retaliating with a goal against. Once again, the Novices showed their intensity, and holding their own, won the game 2-1. The offensive award went to Nolan Henry and the defensive award to Simon Anderson.

With the third round robin game Saturday at 12 noon, the team then played Mr. Rooter's Rebels. The Novices once again showed their prowess, winning 4-2 with Adam Gognavec scoring twice, assisted by Laurier Lefebvre and Sophia Ball respectively; Wyatt Norman scoring assisted by Cooper Mahon and Randy Evanush scoring the final goal assisted by Kyle Nicksy to clinch the win. With Adam Gognavec earning the offensive award and Sullivan Burrows the defensive award, the team was set and ready, placing second overall, to play in the semi-finals on Sunday February 23.

The semis had the Novices facing the Knights of Columbus, and it was a tough game from the start. Down 1-0 at the end of the first, Wyatt Norman scored a power play goal, assisted by Kyle Nicksy. Laurier Lefebvre followed, assisted by Wyatt Norman on another power play goal. The Knights kept the pressure on however, and Adam Gognavec scored the third goal of the game unassisted, with a solid shot resulting in a well earned 3-2 win for Parry Sound, taking the team to the finals against Nickel City.

With the puck drop set for 2pm, the team faced a tough opponent. Nathan Strachan, the Novice goaltender, was set and ready to face this tough opponent after demonstrating fantastic goaltending throughout the entire tournament. Adam Gognavec scored for the Novices, keeping the team's hopes alive. With the score at 3-1, the Novices pulled Nathan in the final minutes to keep the pressure on, but unfortunately Nickel City scored once more on the empty Novice net. Despite the team's many shots on the opposing net, coupled with Nathan's solid goaltending, the team unfortunately lost 4-1 in the final game, earning the Silver Medal in the Novice Minor Atom Division.
