Big Win over the Muskoka Rock!
The Optimist Club Novices traveled to Humphrey to play a 'home' game against the Muskoka Rock last night, looking to crack Rock goalie Nathan Hunter

The first half of the first period was tight with a few chances from the Shamrocks and they set the tone for the entire game with hard work, team play and lots of pressure.  The Rock were on their heals for the entire game.

The Shamrocks got on the board early with a stretch pass by Elliot Mahon to Evan Villeneuve who went in alone and made no mistake beating Hunter blocker side low at 9:34 of the first period.  The Shamrocks never looked back.

The Shamrocks continued to control much of the play into the second and threw a lot of rubber at Hunter with no luck.  At the 5:11 mark of the second Michael Murphy carried the puck in from the the point and had a couple of shots before Mitchell Parrick netted his first ever goal, with assists going to Nathan Heimes and Michael Murphy.

The third period the Rock mounted a little bit of an effort to come back early but were halted by the Shamrocks with very strong defensive play and hard work.  Villeneuve netted an unassisted second goal of the game on a breakaway which looked like it was stopped by Hunter but trickled in.  Lewis Hergaarden broke through all five off a neutral zone face off and scored the Shamrocks fourth goal, unassisted to put the game out of reach.  The Shamrocks relentless pursuit converted to many other chances and created a late goal by Brady Ball, assisted by Nicholas Gray with 0.8 seconds left on the clock.

With hard work in practice, lessons learned in the games and much constant coaching, the boys finally pulled it all together to play a very solid game, all the way from start to finish - the best game of the year, surprising and out shooting the Rock 32-5!

Next game is this Sunday at the Bobby Orr Community Centre against the Elmvale Coyotes @1pm... the boys will be looking to answer back to when the lost 7-2 earlier this month and carrying forward what was learned in this game.

Great Job Shamrocks!
